This renowned masterpiece by Herman J. Albrecht showcases old world craftmanship with modern luxuries, leaving visitors awestruck from the gardens of the house to the lower level. The T.K. Harris Mansion captivates not only historians but dreamers.
Built in 1930 during the Great Depression, this 90 year old Georgian Baronial Estate has only had 3 owners. Going back to the original owner, T.K. Harris roots can be seen across Stark County.
- Founder of Canton Real Estate Board
- One of the founders of Brookside Country Club
- Developer for Hills and Dales Village
- Developer for Tam O' Shanter golf course
- Mayor of Hills and Dales Village which still has a mayor today
T.K. Harris's son in law, Dr. Jack Wynn, recalled that "Everything had to be perfection" even continuing to explain that Harris would have a chauffeur drive him around the village to ensure no stone was out of place. His need for perfection continues today in the majestically manicured lawn and gardens and restored home to match the original vision designed my Herman J. Albrecht.
Herman J. Albrecht, born in Massillon in 1885 attended Massillon High School and studied at The Ohio State University. Herman designed more than 700 buildings including schools, churches, libraries, hospitals and Paul Brown football stadium. Mr. Albrecht often confessed that he enjoyed designing the fine homes in the traditional styles. "You really get a chance to live in a home before the owners do," he would say. "You live with the plans for months, changing and developing them, and sometimes you hate to give them up to the owner." An "Albrecht Home" was considered to be among the best real estate in Canton, Shaker Heights, Rocky River and Cleveland areas. The Herman J. Albrecht Library of Historical Architecture at OSU is a dedication to his lives work and states this Georgian Baronial mansion is his masterpiece.
